Rome eSIM: Data across Italy and the islands
The Rome eSIM reaches well past the city, out to Sicily, Sardinia, Capri, Ischia and Elba. It is a data-only profile that runs on the Wind Tre, Vodafone and Iliad networks. Install it at home over Wi-Fi, before you land at Rome Fiumicino Airport. The plan's days start with the first connection you make inside Italy.
12 plans for Italy, from 1 GB at $3.99 to 20 GB at $18.99, plus 6 unlimited-data tiers. 5 GB for 30 days costs $6.99 — 2nd cheapest of 56 in Europe, against a $7.99 median. Our retail prices from the operator catalogue, checked 13 September 2026.

Landing at Rome Fiumicino Airport
The eSIM waits for you to switch data roaming on for its own line. Do that once the plane is down and the phone comes out of flight mode. Set the same line as the one your phone uses for mobile data. Wind Tre, Vodafone and Iliad are the networks carrying the profile across Italy. No APN needs typing here, either on an Android handset or on an iPhone. Validity is first-usage, so an early purchase does not shorten the plan by a single day.
Which plan for Rome
Rome sits inside a national plan, so the islands cost you nothing extra. Fixed sizes began at 1 GB over seven days and ran to 20 GB over thirty, checked 5 September 2026. Unlimited passes cover everything from three days through to a full thirty. Airalo listed the 5 GB thirty-day plan at $6.99 on 5 September 2026. The five-day unlimited pass was priced at $11.99 on the same date. A long weekend in the centre asks less of a plan than a fortnight touring south. Coverage takes in mainland Italy along with Sicily, Sardinia, Capri, Ischia and Elba.
What the Italian rule says
The Italian rule was written for cards that are handed over in person at a counter. The Italy country page found no confirmed trap for a data-only eSIM of this kind. The 2005 anti-terror decree set identification before the SIM is handed over. It also set a lighter route for the cards that carry data only. You take the roaming profile without local registration of any sort in Italy.
Wind Tre, Vodafone and Iliad
Three Italian networks stand behind this profile at once. Wind Tre and Vodafone are listed as 5G, and Iliad without that tier. The phone picks one of the three on its own after the roaming switch. A handset left searching can be pointed at another by name. None of the three changes the plan, the price paid or the days left. The three names were read on the Italy entry, checked 5 September 2026.
